Steve has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary
and is a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants of Alberta. He has
spent his career in professional practice with a focus on corporate
restructuring and insolvency as well as forensic accounting. He
is Vice President of RSM Richter Inc., a national corporate restructuring
firm, with offices in Toronto, Montreal and Calgary. Steve was appointed
Chairman of the Canadian Tourism Commission by the Federal Government,
in February 2008. He is also a Director of Compton Petroleum Corporation,
a public company.
Steve has
been, and continues to be an active contributor to his profession
and the Calgary community. He is past president of the Institute
of Chartered Accountants of Alberta, and has volunteered with the
Institute throughout his career.
Steve has
been a committed member of the Rotary Club of Calgary since 1980,
and served as Club President in 1994-1995. He will serve as District
Governor of Rotary District #5360 in 2009-2010.
Steve concluded a 9-year commitment as a Director
of the Calgary Foundation in June 2006. He was a member of the Committee
to End Homelessness in Calgary and Co-Chaired the Communications
subcommittee for that initiative. He is a former Trustee of the
Calgary Zoological Society and past Director of University Technologies
Inc. and the Saddledome Foundation. He is Vice Chairman of both
the McMahon Stadium Society and the Calgary Stampede Foundation.
Steve has been a volunteer with the Calgary Exhibition
and Stampede since 1974, a Director from 1994 to 2009 and recently
concluded a 2-year term as Chairman of the Board and President of
the Stampede.
In June, 2007, Steve was pleased to be recognized
as Calgary's "Citizen of the Year" for 2006. He is also proud to
have been recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Institute
of Chartered Accountants of Alberta in 2008 and was also honoured
in 2008 with the Heart of Calgary Award by Volunteer Calgary for
his volunteer efforts in the community.
Steve is married to Marjie and they have three children
and two grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys running, fitness,
golf and skiing.
